Our speaker last week was Mark Betterton.  He is the EMS Operations Chief for UC Health and has been working in the industry for 34 years.  The EMS people are sitting in their ambulances in strategic places during all types of weather.  The EMS people are ready to help people at all times. They put their patients first.  UC Health EMS employees work with their peers in the fire department and police agencies.
The average age of EMS employees is 24. They take care of 18,000 patients each year.  UC Health over-deploys its employees so they don’t get burnt out.  They look at data and placers their ambulances where they are most likely to get a call.  Last year they responded to 38 calls where a person had a cardiac arrest. The EMT employee was able to revive them.
