David Sislowski gave the Greeley Centennial Rotary club a presentation of the Water Literate Leaders program run by the Colorado Water Center at CSU.  The program is funded by the Town of Windsor, City of Greeley, City of Loveland and City of Ft. Collins. Water is our most precious resource here in Colorado.  David has a vested interest in water issues because he is on the Town Board in Windsor (District 6). Mr. Sislowski gave us the historical lesson on the Colorado River Compact (1922).  Each participating state in the Colorado River Basin must release an agreed amount of acre ft. of water into the Colorado River each year. Also, that water level in Lake Mead may soon be so low that it may not be able to power the hydro-electric generators at the Hoover Dam.  David also gave us a breakdown of the Poudre River Basin. Eighty-Five percent of the Poudre flows are used for irrigation. Mr. Sislowski informed us that irrigation is not bad for our environment. Most of the water from irrigation goes back into the aquifer and the Poudre River.  If we did not irrigate, then the Poudre River would go dry after the snow melt run off in the Summer!
