I received this story from Interact Chairman Scott Gattis:

"I was checking with John Haefeli today to see what Interact has on their upcoming schedule. At this time they're planning on helping us with our basketball tournament and making and delivering Valentines, presumably to residents of assisted care facilities. The Interact Club will be meeting next week and as John mentioned to me, they'll probably come up with more great things to do. Just a little while ago John followed up with what GWHS Interact has done thus far in the school year. I have attached that document for you to review. By quick glance they've logged around 1400 volunteer hours to date. They've done so much for our community. I participated in the GWHS Thanksgiving Big Give and it was amazing. John Haefeli and other great faculty members pull together members of the entire student body, not just Interact kids to make this such a meaningful project. Meaningful not only to the recipients of the food (families of GWHS students and staff, A Woman's Place, and more) that otherwise might not have a Thanksgiving meal but also to the students who raise money for, gather, sort, box and distribute the more than 150 boxes that went out. These are truly, truly great kids that John encourages and supports as they choose how they wish to serve others. They're highly autonomous, very motivated, and remind us of what is right with today's young people. As you know, John deflects any praise that comes his way and points directly to the kids - they run the show but it's his dedication that makes certain that the show will go on year after year after year. My point in passing this information along is to perhaps encourage more of our great Rotarians to 1) Learn a little more about Interact & RYLA through observation and participation and 2) To do our best to support John when he has a request for our assistance, like the basketball tournament he needs volunteers for as mentioned in last week's announcements. I hope we'll be able to step up and help him out. As Greeley Centennial Rotarians, we should all take great pride in what we have done to sponsor GWHS programs (Student of the Month, Better Schools/Better Communities, etc.). Best yet, we support Interact members as they help our community and learn the meaning and importance of "Service above Self."
